We are Barclays colleagues who are spending 7 days trekking to Romania's highest peak in the Carpathian Mountains in July 2010.

WHY? To raise money for the Link Romania charity and four of the amazing projects that they support. They are:

1.    Kindergarten in Dallas Shanty Town – Iasi, Romania

2.    Soup Kitchen - Cosnita, Moldova

3.    House for ex-orphanage boys on the Farm of Hope – Iasi Romania

4.    Meals on Wheels for the elderly – Dancu, Moldova

Kieran visited the Kindergarten and Farm of Hope last December (as part of the charity's annual Shoebox Smiles family shoebox appeal distribution - click here for more details..) and met some of the people these projects benefit. Two facts for you.

The Farm of Hope have 16 beds ready and waiting to take boys off the street but they aren't allowed because they have no fire alarm system! It's going to cot £5k.

You get goosebumps when you meet a family who live in one room without running water, heating or electricity and seeing some of their children being able to attend a kindergarten, they have an opportunity to gain an education and break out of poverty.  

Thats what makes us want to climb the highest peak in Romania and help raise money for Link Romania to continue with these projects. We know without doubt the impact that money does have on peoples lives because we have had the opportunity to meet them and learn more about their lives.
