Story

On 1st April 2011, Chesham Cricket Club’s 48 year old pavilion was burnt to the ground in an arson attack. This has affected the club as a whole, with Chesham boasting over 300 juniors as well as 7 senior men’s sides and woman’s XI. We are a not for profit community club and as such we are eligible for Gift Aid on any donations.

We have already received generous grant support from our sport’s governing body (ECB) and also from Sport England. The club has already raised a significant amount from club members making donations and running events and we are on the home straight to complete the project. The original target required to be raised by club members was £200,000 out of a total project cost of £804,000. We have had many generous donations and pledges from club members and the cricketing community at large and we have a further £69,000 to raise to allow us to complete new build.

Each member of the first and second team squads have been asked to contribute in raising the remaining amount to contribute to the rebuilding process. As two members of the current 1st team, we have decided to test ourselves in order to raise funds for this project.

After being inspired by the achievements of Wiggins, Cavendish and Froome last summer, we are challenging ourselves to cycle the 83 miles from Portsmouth (where we are both at University) to the cricket club in Chesham. We have set the target of completing the journey in just one day on Thursday 20th June, 2013.

Any donations to this cause would be greatly appreciated, however big or small.
