Story

London Triathlon - Olympic Distance!!! (follow my training progress at http://barrythemachinewilton.blogspot.com )

As soon as the question "Do you want to do a triathlon?" was put to me my immediate response was "Put me down for the longest distance one!!" So, in August, I will be doing a 1.5km swim, 40km bike and finally 10km run....... and all in aid of Helen Rollason Cancer Charity.

I’ve started training, brought my very own racing bike, a passport for the local swimming pool and I’ve extended my usual 2.5 mile run to 6 miles – as long as I train for at least 8 hours a week I’ll be fine; if you’re reading this and haven’t seen a lot of me – you now know why!!

I first learned about the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity when my girlfriends Mother was lost her Cancer fight in October 2008; her Professor was Neville Davidson, Chairman of the Charity.

The charity provides complimentary therapies, counselling, manual lymph drainage, support groups which gives a chance for those with cancer and their carers to meet with others in a similar situation. The charity also participates in Drug Trials, enabling almost 2,000 cancer patients to participate in pioneering clinical drug trials. In 2003 the first Helen Rollason Research Laboratory was opened to undertake research into breast cancer using freshly collected tumor specimens and blood samples from cancer patients. The charity also has several volunteers, fundraisers and charity shops across Essex, Herts and London to help raise valuable funds to support the charity.

Hopefully, in time, all the research that the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity is doing will pay off and it will enable more people to be cured from this cruel disease but for now, the Helen Rollason Cancer Charity needs your support, please start by sponsoring me to do the London Triathlon.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Thank you
