Cops take on crazy challenge for Children in Need.
A team of police officers from Basingstoke are embarking on a mammoth cross-channel challenge to raise money for BBC Children in Need.
On the 13th November 2014 the team of six officers are cycling from Alençon Police Station in France – Basingstoke’s twinned town – to Caen.
They will then be boarding a ferry to Portsmouth where they will then run the remainder of the journey, snaking through Hampshire, to finally reach Basingstoke Police Station on the 14th November 2014.
Officers from across Hampshire Constabulary will also be getting involved to support this crazy challenge and we might even see Chief Constable Andy Marsh donning his running kit and supporting the team.
One of the organisers, Detective Constable Rod Kenny said: “There is a history of officers completing various challenges at Basingstoke for Children in Need, so we thought we’d go big this year and push ourselves to the limit.
“This is going to be a gruelling challenge which will see us cycle 120km as a team before embarking on a relay run in pairs from Portsmouth to Basingstoke Police Station, covering a total distance of 84km.
“We’d love to raise as much money as possible through this event for a great charity and would encourage people to come out and support us on the day. We’ll be running through a big chunk of Hampshire, so please come out and give us a wave!”
Keep an eye on the Hampshire Constabulary Facebook page and the @HantsPolice and @BasingstokeCops twitter accounts for regular updates in the run up to the challenge and for live coverage on the day.
We would also like to take this opportunity to express our thanks to Brittany Ferries who have supported us by donating the cross channel travel.
