Arsenal Football Club is supporting Teenage Cancer Trust as its nominated charity during the 2008/09 football season.

Through the ‘Be A Gooner. Be A Giver.’ campaign, the Gunners will aim to raise £300,000 throughout the partnership, enabling Teenage Cancer Trust to increase its support for teenagers and young adults with cancer in the London area, inside a new state-of-the-art Day Care Centre at University College Hospital due to open in 2012.  In addition to the £300,000 raised by Arsenal, Teenage Cancer Trust needs to raise a further £1.2million to complete the development of this unit.

The money raised by Arsenal will fund an Education Zone for teenage and young adult cancer patients within the brand new Teenage Cancer Trust unit inside University College Hospital’s Day Care Centre, the first of its kind in Europe. The Education Zone will be a dedicated space where those teenagers being treated can keep up with their studies and also learn more about their cancer. The zone will include technology enabling patients to contact their school, keep in touch with friends and even join in with lessons via webcam.

Not only will Arsenal be bringing a classroom to teenage cancer patients, it will help improve their psychological wellbeing, self-confidence and ensure their future life choices remain intact.
