Story
This November I'll be heading to Vietnam to take part in a 13-day charity bike ride to raise funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY). The journey starts and finishes at the capital Hanoi and will take me across the remote and traditional northern Vietnam, covering between 60 and 120km a day!
CRY raises awareness of abnomalities that can lead to sudden cardiac death in young people. In 2002, my good friend Gemma Collyer (pictured, right) passed away suddenly at just 20 years old from an undiagnosed heart condition and every week 12 apparantly fit and healthy young people die in the UK from undiagnosed heart conditions. Last year, CRY ran the first ever free heart screening tour across the UK for 14-35 year olds which they're continuing this year. (Find out more at http://www.c-r-y.org.uk/ecg.htm)
My fundraising target is £3,000. Of this, a minimum of £1,500 will go direct to CRY, the remainder going towards the event costs. In order that as much money as possible from your sponsorship will go to CRY, I have donated £500 towards the event costs. My employer, Financial Times, have also very kindly donated a further £500. At least 75% of your personal sponsorship will therefore go direct to CRY.
Any support you're able to give means a lot.
Huge thank you!
