UPDATE 28th MAY 2010: Over the last week we have had two HUGE donations. Firstly, Jo's work (Wolff Olins) has donated foreign currency that has been collected in their office following business trips. The exact amount is yet to be calculated but it is estimated to be approximately £1000. Secondly, my work (Royal Bank of Canada) has donated £2000. Thanks again to everyone who has donated and helped us to smash through our target!!!!!!!!!

 

UPDATE 4th MAY 2010: On a beautifully sunny day our merry band of athletes stepped up and attacked the hilly course. Their running effort was fantastic and only surpassed by the lengths that all had gone to in the wardrobe department - the combination of lycra clad men and women, superheroes, fairies and the 1980s Wimbledon men finalists left many of the supporters speechless. Huge thanks again to all those who took part – we really couldn’t have done it without you. Jo & I feel that it was a fantastic success and really hope that you all enjoyed it as much as we did. Big congrats to those who finished their first marathon and to the many that ran further than they had ever done before - individual and team times are listed below. You should all be very proud.

Finally many thanks to all that have already donated. We really appreciate it. The site will be open until the end of the month so please please do keep the donations coming. It would be great if we could hit our targets.

In December 2009 43 (and counting) "athletes" decided to take on the Belfast Marathon. Their aim, to raise money for Action Cancer Northern Ireland and the head and neck cancer unit at University College London Hospital where Jo received such fantastic treatment and support following her cancer diagnosis in 2008.

Each runner has paid for their own flights, accommodation and race entry so every penny raised will go directly to the charities. The teams and their stories / messages are below.

Stewart & Jo - we are overwhelmed by the number of people that signed up to join us in Belfast. The money is for two terrific charities, Action Cancer, for who my family have been fund raising for years and University College Hospital London who recently provided amazing treatment and support for Jo. 

Jemma McCann (The Cougars) - I intend to smash it.

Glyn (3 blind, stupid, crazy mice) - We are keen to run the whole thing, Birksy was so keen he was looking at mens health online today, he was still sitting down but the thought was there!!

Bout Ye Boys & London Lads - "We're a motley crew of friends and friends of friends, brought together with our love of running around the streets of Belfast. For some reason we have all decided to run the Marathon wearing some of the most ridiculous full-body lycra wear ever seen by man! Hopefully this will raise a little colourful awareness for what we're doing this for and alot of money for some very important charities - please give generously everyone."
