Flora London Marathon 2008 · 13 April 2008 ·

Communication Matters aims to increase public awareness & knowledge of the needs of people with communication disabilities who benefit from other ways of speaking (e.g. symbols/technology systems). It provides convenient information & organises an annual conference, roadshows & study days UK-wide.

Story

Bernie Henderson, a trustee of Communication Matters, will be running in the London Marathon for the fourth time on 13th April 2008. He completed the first in 1981 and then again in 2005 & 2006 when he was dressed as Rupert Bear, the mascot of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign (MDC).

Unfortunately, Bernie can't wear the Rupert outfit this year but will be looking to find some other costume before the big day. He is asking everyone involved in the Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) community to sponsor him to raise funds for Communication Matters.

All the funds raised will be used to support the work of the charity, including the provision of a telephone helpline, literature, road shows, conferences and other events to increase public awareness, understanding and knowledge of the needs of people with complex communication needs.

Please dig deep and sponsor him online (please leave a message – he needs all the encouragement he can get!).

Donating through the site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor him: Communication Matters will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Thank you for your support!
