Story
I am taking part in the midnight walk on 14th June 2008 in memory of my beloved sister Daryl, a young woman, taken in the prime of her life, by an unrelenting, cruel disease - cancer.
Daryl was taken seriously ill in July 2008 and it was the North London Hospice that was there to ease her suffering and pain when she moved from Mount Vernon Hospital. Their care, attention and love nursed her back from the brink, and gave her a few extra months to be able to live and enjoy her birthday, and a couple of trips with her family and dear friends.
Daryl then moved to a nursing home, but the North London Hospice never turned their back on her, their out placement unit was constantly visiting, monitoring and looking after all of her palliative care, both mentally and physically.
In her last few weeks, it was the North London Hospice that provided a tranquil painless place for Daryl to pass away with dignity, pride and respect. As one of Daryl’s three sisters, I can also say that the North London Hospice was and continues to be a huge support to us as family grieving a great lost.
The work of the members of staff and the hoards of volunteers at this wonderful oganisation is a vital and reassuring service to our community.
The North London Hospice supports people with terminal illness, helping to make their final days more comfortable and providing support to family, friends and carers. The Hospice currently costs over £10,000 and provide all of their services free of charge. The Hospice receives very little in the way of public funding sometimes less than 25% of its costs so please please please give generously to this charity and thank you so much for your support.
