Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are delighted to report that we have been successful in summiting the monstrous beast that is Snowdon in order to raise money for a special charity.  What made this such an exciting and inspiring challenge is that each of the 32-strong Team had been training specifically for this exciting and inspiring climb and for some it represented their own personal challenge.  It was a magnificent weekend with heroic efforts, bags of fun, and lots of wonderful memories for us all.

The Shooting Star Children's Hospice provides care, support and advice for children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families. These care services are offered free of charge to families, 365 days a year.

Shooting Star opened in 2005 and now supports 250 families. The care services are based around the needs of the whole family; so as well as caring for the children and young people there are activities and support groups for siblings, parents and other relatives. This makes a real difference to families who find themselves in unimaginable circumstances - helping them live life to the full by providing opportunities for fun and laughter, as well as helping them through the tougher times.

Families benefit from Shooting Star's care services in the community, in their own homes and at Shooting Star House, the purpose-built facility based in Hampton, Middlesex. These services include Short Breaks (respite care), Day Care, Outreach Care, Family Support and Therapies and End of Life Care.

It costs £3 million every year (£8,220 a day) to maintain these care services and with no long-term statutory funding, the majority of this comes from voluntary donations.  It was our aim, with your help, to raise £8,220 and support one full day of care service.  We have now achieved that goal and are seeing hoy much further we can go!

Facts and Figures of Snowdon

Snowdon stands 1,085 metres (3,560 feet) high. The summit has 200 inches (508 cm) of rain per year, and can reach temperatures of 30 centigrade in high summer, and plummet to - 20 centigrade in the winter.  Add to this winds of up to 150 mph and the temperature can feel more like - 50.  The summit buildings at the top can by covered by ice and snow between November and April.

Thank you for your support and for helping to making a positive difference to the children and their families.
