Story

Hi friends

Thanks very much for dropping by to take a look at my donating page.

My name is Darren Hartland, a totally blind DJ based in the Northamptonshire area of the UK.

On February 21st 2006, I start my bid to break the Guinness world record for the longest ever DJing marathon. The current official record stands at a mere 74 hours, however several attempts have gone past that figure and are awaiting confirmation from Guinness. My own aim is to DJ non-stop for 96 hours, that's 4 days with no sleep!

So, why the hell would I do such a thing? That's a question I've been asking myself a lot during the last few months. One of the driving factors is that I want to raise in excess of £10,000 for the Dreamflight charity. As a DJ it would've been simple enough to organise a charity disco and send the profits along to Dreamflight, but I wanted to do something a little more challenging and something that would catch the imagination and enthusiasm of my local community. The event is taking place at the Daventry Leisure Centre, Lodge Road, Daventry and everyone's welcome to come along and watch me slowly go into a 4 day trance. We're also having the whole thing broadcast over the Internet, so if you can't make it to Daventry, you can listen live. I'm currently running a competition from my DJ world record website to see if you can guess how many songs I'll be able to play during my attempt. It costs just £2.00 to enter and you're in charge of how much you win. 50% of the money raised from the competition will go towards the prize jackpot and the rest will be divided in providing prizes to give away during the world record attempt, with the remainder going to Dreamflight. On 9 December, we held a promotional Christmas party at the Daventry leisure Centre to raise further awareness of Dreamflight and February's event. It's unlikely that we have made a profit from it, however, with a bit of luck more folks are aware of what is going on in their town in February and that will generate more cash. We all had a great time and we had some extremely generous sponsors from the local business comunity in respect of prizes. Some of these included: Tickets for the Xfactor live tour in February, tickets to the Cinderella panto at the Deco Theatre, Northampton, go carting passes, cinema passes, UK attractions vouchers etc. Now the party's out the way, the hard work really starts. I'm feeling fitter than I've done in over 20 years and I can't wait to get at it! Dreamflight have recently returned from their latest trip for 194 sick kids and by all accounts they had a brilliant time, they even got to swim with dolphins, the lucky devils! I really hope you are able to help with a donation and it will help to make sure that incurably sick and disabled kids get their dream holiday in 2006. You can get all the details of my world record attempt from www.dont-stop-the-music.com Also, feel free to send me a message, either from the contact page or by signing the guestbook on www.dont-stop-the-music.com Once again, many many thanks for your donation and I hope you can either make it to Daventry in February 2006 or you'll be listening live over the net. All the best Darren Hartland
