Story

Introduction

Hi!

Thank you for visiting the official Bike Bristol to Amsterdam 2010 JustGiving page. In association with http://www.bikebristolamsterdam.eu/

I would first of all like to introduce the charity for which the event is raising money, and the rationale behind opting for this particular cause.

Cause

Bike Bristol Amsterdam2010 chosen charity is MacMillan Cancer support.

MacMillan is a charity close to my heart through all the fine work they do,  my personal story is detailed briefly here.

July 2008 myself, family & friends lost my brother David Fielding, age 35 to liver cancer in a  massively unjust departure from this world. David was the most fantastic, hilarious brother you could imagine who had  an amazing career ahead of him as a ballet choreographer in London.

And then in January 2010 my family was unfortunate a second time round with the passing away of my father Graham Fielding this time through Lung Cancer (Asbestos related). Tragically and rather ironically he was to develop the disease whilst caring for my brother in his final months. Dad made the walk up Hellvellyn in the Lake District through sheer determination when we were to scatter David's ashes despite being ill himself. This was defining of his strong nature for which I will always be truly proud.

It is always comforting to know there is a positive support network in place to provide immediate help to those suffering with cancer, and also offering support to the family or friends of the individual themselves. If it weren't for these organisations lending their help funded by charity then unnecessary additional strain would be placed on the health service, and the supporting families at an already distressing time.

Macmillan cancer support improves the lives of people affected by cancer. They provide practical, medical, emotional and financial support and push for better cancer care. Cancer affects us all. Macmillan make the difference.
