We collect used bicycles in the UK and we ship them, in containers, to people who need them in Africa. Some people living in rural African communities walk miles everyday to reach water, school, work or healthcare. Bikes are a sustainable mode of transport and help change lives for many families.

Story

Hi Everyone!

On Tues 20th Oct 2009, Betty, Joe and Maia will embark on an epic 2500 mile journey... that's right! we're cycling to Africa! We leave Bristol from the BBC studios on Whiteladies road after a quick interview with Graham Torrington (of late night lurrrrrve fame) for BBC Radio Bristol. The first leg of the journey will take us through the Mendips and over the moors down to Plymouth, where we'll catch a ferry across to Roscoff. From there we head down to Brest and enjoy a nice flat straight along the beautiful Nantes-Brest canal. Then we'll follow the coast down to Bristol's twin-town Bordeaux. We'll seek out the hot springs of the Pyrenees to soothe our undoubtedly weary muscles before crossing over into Espagne! From the border we shall be making a bee-line for the region of Rioja where we will quite possibly need to don our stabilisers after a little wine-tasting tour. :) Then it's down through the beautiful Spanish countryside knocking on the locals doors to practise our Espagnol! Then it's just a case of ferrying across the Gibraltar Straits and BY JOVE, WE'VE DONE IT! Hello Africa!

The journey will be an epic one for sure, and we undoubtedly be full of lots of unsuspected little surprises, keep up to date on our adventure at www.biketoafrica.blogspot.com for the full story and lots of pictures!

All money raised goes to the wonderful Re-Cycle, Bike aid for Africa. You can check their website here: www.re-cycle.org so please dig deep! every pound spared will help.

Thanks guys! and wish us luck!
