Story
Thank you for visiting the BlackRock Team's fundraising page.
The team has just completed a 5 day visit to Kenya during which they completed the gruelling half marathon, and in one case, Frederik Meheus, the full marathon. The highlights of the trip fall into three categories:
First the work of Tusk - we visited several projects and were struck with the extremely efficient and effective way that funds raised could be put to work. A water project to separate the usage of one spring between washing, animal hydration and human cooking requirements costs around $45,000, but has revolutionised the lives of 3,500 people in the immediate neighbouring villages. We also visited a school which has been transformed by Lewa Conservancy's efforts through the provision of a feeding programme, $8,000 funds a classroom and as little as $700 would sponsor a child through secondary education.
The second highlight was the race itself - the team performed well with distinguished achievements from most participants. Frederik was the fastest European to finish the full marathon, ranking 40th overall. Alex Hoctor-Duncan completed the course having suffered a stress fracture at 5km of his left tibia, Nick Anderson ws 2nd placed male in the over 50 category and Devan Marshall was first home of the BlackRock team.
The third highlight was the extremely attractive environment - breathtaking views, a comfortable campsite and splendid hospitality from the Tusk team. All in all an amazing experience and we really appreciate any support you can give us.
Thank you.
