Three members of the Red Arrows 'Blues' and one member of our sister station at Kirton in Lindsey are training to take part in the 94th Nijmegen Marches to be held in Holland between the 20th and the 23rd of July 10.
This 100 mile march over four days, caring 10Kgs of dead weight and wearing their military uniform including boots around the historic city of Nijmegen. This will test the 'Blues' team work as well as physical and mental endurance. To train for this they have be pounding the roads and paths around Scampton and Cyprus in order to be fit enough to complete the challenge and toughen their feet to prevent the inevitable blisters. The marches were first introduced to the Dutch Military in 1909 to keep them fit after the introduction of motor transport. Over the following years it has developed into a walking festival for military and civilians alike. Last year saw 45,000 people from around the globe register to take part with 37,106 of those crossing the finish line.* Charities pay a small fee for our service.
