Story
We are competing in the Enduro Challenge: a multi-sport relay race from London to Paris. Taking place from 30 Aug - 2 Sept, it involves:
· Running 140km from London to Dover (24km each)
· Swimming 40km across The English Channel (~7km each)
· Cycling 300km from Calais to Paris (50km each)
By travelling from London to Paris under human power we hope to raise awareness of the important issues that Sustrans are trying to address. We are doing this because we are passionate about protecting the environment and doing something about the massive transport challenges facing society.
The Bluespot Team members are: Amy Harmsworth, Craig Bond, James Taylor(C), Jo Higgins, Matt Fowles & Steven Pidgeon(C).
We are ably supported by a fabulous support crew of: Louise Norton-Smith, Charlotte Fowles, Sallyann Nason & Sarah Laitung, who will manage the logistics, drive our minibus, look after us and handle anglo-french relations.
We are all pushing ourselves to the limit to make this happen. If you'd like to read more about our progress and training (including stories about our cold-water acclimatisation!) visit our Facebook page.
We are incredibly proud and grateful to be supported by the Bluespot Knee Clinic - a specialised private care clinic established by Mr Shameem Sampath, a highly skilled orthopaedic surgeon with a reputation for exceptional patient care. He established Bluespot because he wanted to offer his knee patients access to more advanced surgical procedures and improved after care - the clinic is one of the few centres for computer aided surgery in the UK.
Our team co-captain James Taylor had major knee surgery (ACL reconstruction) under the expertise of Mr Sampath just twelve months ago, which is great testament in itself to Mr Sampath's work!
We are very grateful also to the Civil Service Insurance Society, for generously supporting us. There are significant costs involved due to the sheer scale of the event, and we could not be taking part and raising money for charity without their support and that of Mr Sampath and the Bluespot clinic.
A big thank you also to P&O Ferries for providing us with free return trips for the crew and vehicles.
Donating through JustGiving is totally secure.
They'll send your money directly to Sustrans and ensure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer -So please dig deep and donate now!
