We provide vital practical and financial to support our Armed Forces community.

Story

"There Is No Such Thing As Insurmountable Odds" - 30 miles, 32 pounds, 10 hours...you decide!

"The Chara Challenge was founded in 2009 after 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines returned from their third tour of duty in Afghanistan.  During that tour 37 of our comrades were killed in action and 167 were seriously wounded fighting the Taliban.

The Chara Challenge is a demanding cross-country race across Dartmoor carrying 32 pounds of weight.  Its purpose is to raise money for those charities that have a proven record of providing benevolence services for our wounded comrades and the dependants of the fallen.

The race is a test of endurance and character.  It is also fun, immensely rewarding and worthy - the 2009 event raised over £100,000 for our supported charities.  The Chara Challenge 2010 will be run on Sunday 8 August."

We are a team of 10 (slightly) crazy people with varying levels of fitness who are prepared to give this a go!  The training has begun and so has the pain...the rucksacks are packed with bags of compost and the walking boots are being tested to the max.  Our weekends are now dominated by hikes on the moor, lugging around our mammoth backpacks come rain or shine, and rain it does!

The Chara Challenge website is now live so take a look at www.charachallenge.com and see for yourselves what we are letting ourselves in for.

We are splitting all the money we raise between four very worthy charities - SSAFA, Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund, BLESMA and Combat Stress - further details of all these charities can be found on the Chara Challenge website.

Please dig deep and pledge as much as you can afford - every donation will be appreciated big or small. We will keep you updated on our training progress and hopefully post some pictures soon!

And finally...remember that for every death you hear about on the news there are several more soldiers who have been seriously injured, their lives and those of their families altered beyond recognition...they just don't make the headlines...
