Story
WE ALL DID IT! We had a great day and there are a couple of photos to prove it - although missing from the photo are Jackie and Denise - they were having a well earned cuppa in the Macmillan tent!
On the 22nd December 2009 my Mum, Brenda, was admitted into hospital and diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer. After a hellish 3 weeks, during which my inspirational mum showed courage and strength, she lost her battle on the 15th January.
Our story is both unbelievable and very sad. Unfortunately it is not unique with relatives, friends and their relatives also being lost to Cancer. In such circumstances the care and attention provided to patients and family members by Macmillan Nurses cannot be underestimated and that is why my mum was committed to raising funds in the last week of her life, and why I promised to do the GNR for this very important charity.
I am absolutely delighted that in memory of my great Mum - husband to John, grandma to Milo, and sister to Ann, Linda and Julie - that I will be joined on the Great North Run by 8 of my amazing pals and my lush cousin Kelly - they all lead busy lives with career and/or family commitments and would not describe themselves - shall we say - as enthusiastic runners, but their dedication to the GNR has been second to none and my Mum would be thrilled. So yes, we are officially Brenda's Babes. We aim to raise as much as we can so if you can spare some pounds, shillings or pence please sponsor us so that Macmillan Nurses can continue to provide the support they do to families like ours.
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Love Kim, Brenda's family and babes: Gail, Julie, Emer, Marie, Denise, Jackie, Kelly, Gradley and Lorraine - who unfortunately can't join us on the run but who remains key to Team Babe!
