LINK is British Transport Police's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Support Network.

A team of LINK committee members have taken up the arduous challenge which is Stonewall's Equality Walk 2010 in Brighton.

Following months of gruelling training this hardcore team of high performance athletes will be whizzing round the 10km course, motivated not only by the prospect of a cold pint at the end, but by the drive to raise loads of cash for Stonewall's fight against homophobic bullying.

Here are some facts:

- Seven out of ten lesbian and gay young people say homophobic bullying affects their school work and many have skipped school because of it

- Half of secondary teachers say the vast majority of homophobic incidents go unreported. 

- Stonewall’s research shows that sixty five per cent of lesbian, gay and bisexual young people experience homophobic bullying and ninety eight per cent hear the words ‘That’s so gay’ or ‘You’re so gay’ in school.

The impact of homophobic bullying going unchallenged is severe, not only for young people, but for society as a whole - with negative attitudes towards the LGBT community leading to hate incidents and hate crimes.
