Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Guildford to Brighton bike ride on MAY 8th 2010 - 43 miles

In Feb 2010 our dad (Peter Byrom, aged 63) was unfortunately diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer, this really knocked our family and friends for six. Dad is going to start Chemotherapy very soon and our fingers are crossed that this goes someway to getting him better.

As soon as we found out about the diagnosis we felt we had to do something and the journey begun to decide to raise money for a specific pancreatic cancer charity, we couldn't just sit down and do nothing, hence the idea to do a bike ride.

We want to raise as much money as we possibly can to help fight this horrible cancer and with your help we can, i know my dad will not be around to benefit from any of this but i hope that the money raised will go towards other people's family members in the future possibly having a way out from pancreatic cancer.

After days and days of searching for the right one we decided upon "Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund".  To us this was the perfect charity, a charity where all the money that is raised goes towards research projects on early detection and better treatments for pancreatic cancer.

Although pancreatic cancer is the fifth most common cause of cancer death in adults, it is much less well known then breast cancer or bowel cancer for example, sadly pancreatic cancer presents late and kills early.  The success of treatment is still poor, with a 5 year survival rate of approximately 3%, in fact most people die within the first 6 months of diagnosis, hence further research into better diagnosis and treatment is of the utmost importance

Any donations would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Jamie and Danielle

Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund is the only national charity dedicated solely to beating pancreatic cancer through research. Survival rates are low, so new research is vital. In the past, this cancer received little attention. With your help, we can change this so more people beat pancreatic cancer.
