When mum was diagnosed with vascular dementia I wasn't prepared for what that actually meant.  Oh like all mothers and daughters we had our ups and downs, but I can honestly say you wouldn't find a better Grandma, she loved her grandkids and would spend ages reading to them and playing with them.  When dad died I can honestly say I lost my mum, within a year she was in a care home and two years later she had to go into a nursing home.  Now she spends her day lying in bed, unaware of where she is or who has been to see her.

 

This disease robs people of their personalities, their dignity and their independance in the most vicious way.

 

So I am pulling on my walking boots (well my Dr Martens) all in a good cause.

 

Please donate if you can, it may be too late for my mum, but there is so much more research needed so that people can hold on to who they are for longer.
