Story

Mental and emotional health support for young people.

At WYC, we offer free, one-to-one counselling with a professional BACP registered counsellor or trainee counsellor for young people aged 11-25 who live in the Winchester District.

Did you know that 1 in 10 children/young people are affected by a mental and emotional health issue? 70% of which do not receive the appropriate support. To help tackle this problem and make support more readily available, in 2022, WYC doubled the number of counselling we offer. Recently we have received an unprecedented number of referrals from young people in need of support with the main presenting issues being anxiety (65%), low-mood (48%), suicidal thoughts (30%) and self-harm (30%).

With a very long waitlist to receive support from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), the need for support from smaller mental health services like WYC is vital in our community and that is why we continue to do what we do.
