Story

Aboyne Paths and Tracks Group is fundraising to support our community path work, in particular two important projects for our community. We need your help to show funding bodies that local people support these projects.

Our Aboyne Castle Woods project will improve a small number of the existing informal paths in Castle Woods to create a suitable network of paths for wheelchairs and physically impaired users. Our plan is to improve the accessibility of some of the paths whilst maintaining the natural character of the woods. We will also improve ramp access to the Deeside Way core path running through Aboyne centre. Both paths will improve connectivity between new housing off the Tarland Road and the village centre, as well as off-road travel to Aboyne schools and Community Centre.

Our Glen Tanar to Aboyne Link Path will create a safe off-road active travel route linking the popular Glen Tanar forest and community to Aboyne, the main hub for services and facilities for local people and visitors. This would avoid 3km of busy road including hazardous sections of poor visibility on bridges and bends.

Funding

We already have substantial funding promised for these two projects:

£100,000 for Glen Tanar of £187,000 required.

£88,600 of £250,000 required for Castle Woods (or £160,000 for Phase One).

We aim to complete fundraising and construction for both of these projects by April 2024.

How Can You Help?

Every little helps! Please donate even if you can only spare a few pounds: this shows grant givers that these projects are supported by our community and helps us to win funding. Or create your own fundraising page and help support this cause.
