Families in Nepal urgently need safe drinking water

Flash floods have devastated communities in Nepal, leaving families displaced and the water unsafe to drink.

When floods hit, safe water can quickly become one of the most urgent needs. Wells, rivers and local supplies can be contaminated by sewage, mud, debris and damaged infrastructure. For families already forced from their homes, clean water can help prevent illness and save lives.

Aquabox is already responding

Because emergency stock was already in Nepal, 41 Aqua-Aid boxes were despatched within 36 hours to support families in the Jajarkot and Bajura Districts.

The photos on this page show aid being moved and distributed on the ground now, with Aquabox boxes already reaching communities affected by the floods.

Each Aqua-Aid box includes a family water filter, helping families turn unsafe water into safe drinking water when they need it most.

More help is urgently needed

Aquabox volunteers in Derbyshire are now preparing a UK shipment for Nepal. This includes 1,260 family filters and 15 community filters, which together could help provide clean water for more than 20,000 people displaced by the floods.

But to keep responding, Aquabox needs to raise £40,000 to buy the component parts needed to make more life-saving water filters.
