About our charity : Butterwick Hospice Care Butterwick Hospice Care
Butterwick Hospice Care aims to improve the quality of life for those who have a progressive life limiting illness and those close to them. To offer positive support for every challenge they may encounter during their illness and to see death as part of life's journey. A life limiting illness changes everything, moves all the parameters in your life and the lives of those around you. Butterwick Hospice Care intends to be there for those in this situation and to listen, guide and support the patients and their family. Adult patients are cared for at facilities based in Stockton and Bishop Auckland. Butterwick House Children's Hospice, also located in Stockton, was the first of its kind in the North East and is still the only one accepting children from birth to 19 and providing end of life care. Admissions are made from Teesside, North Yorkshire, County Durham and Wearside.

Our personal message:

Thank you for visiting Caol Ila's fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor us, we're competing in two adventure races this summer to raise money for Butterwick Hospice Care in Stockton-on-Tees. The charity is very close to our hearts and the palliative care and support which the Butterwick provides is very imporant to many individuals and families who find their lives affected by terminal illness.

Caol Ila is the name of the boat which will be our home in May and June this year.

It's gonna be tough. Having completed the Scottish Islands Peaks Race in May 2008 (go to www.list.co.uk/article/9277-scottish-islands-peaks-race-2008 for a race report of sorts . . .), PART TWO of our epic challenge awaits, as we attempt to complete 400 miles of tough sailing, 30 miles of cycling and 60 miles of running (the equivalent of 3 marathons in around 4 days).

The Powerbar Three Peaks Yacht Race is one of the most gruelling challenges anyone could put themselves through. In May we completed the Scottish Islands Peaks Race by running up three of Scotland's most epic mountains on the Isles of Mull, Jura, and Arran. This time we're going that bit further to earn your hard earned pennies for The Butterwick Hospice. At the end of June we'll run up the three highest peaks in Britain -- Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in England and finish up by scaling Ben Nevis in Scotland. Not only that but we'll sail to each mountain -- as if it isn't hard enough!

Phew!

There'll be blood. Sweat. And beers (post-race ofcourse . . .)

But worry not. We'll put ourselves through the pain, the suffering, the seasickness and sleep deprivation. All you have to do is wiggle your mouse a bit and tap in a few numbers.

For more info on the team and races, take a sneaky peak at our UNSPONSORED website:

Whatever you can afford will be very gratefully received and contribute to the continued good work done by the staff at Butterwick Hospice Care.

Thank you very much!
