In October 2013 Carl and Dale (along with some friends) plan to take 18 days out of everyday life and take part in one of the toughest challenges there is…... Everest Base Camp!

The grueling trek into the mountains will see temperatures of  -15c, 12 hour climbing/trekking days, basic food rations poor sanitary conditions, altitude sickness and worse than all that…. NO FACEBOOK!!!!!

 

Yes we must be crazy but its all for a good cause and one that’s personal to us.

 

Dementia is caused by diseases of the brain and can affect anyone. There are currently over 800,000 people with dementia in the UK and this figure is set to rise to over 1 million by 2021. Dementia is terminal and there is no cure. A staggering one in three people over 65 die with a form of dementia.

 

The Alzheimer’s Society is a non-Profit Organization and is the leading support and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. They rely solely on donations and with this money they fund research, care, and help for sufferers and those affected. They were a huge help to Dales family when his gran developed the disease and sadly passed away from it in 2005.

 

“Nothing can prepare a family for this cruel disease. My gran went from being the feisty Irish head of the family to someone who needed round the clock care and could not remember her own children’s names. The hardest part in my opinion is the length of this death sentence, which can be up to ten years’” Dale

 

Neither pair of us are new to challenges. Carl has taken part twice in Mission Malawi which involved cycling, hiking and kayaking over 12 days in Malawi and Dale conquered Kilmanjaro in 2010 but trekking 120km and climbing to an amazing 5,545m above sea level is extreme to say the least!

Now the hard part…… We would love to raise ten thousand pounds for the charity. If you can help at all please donate on this page (remembering to use giftaid) any amount you can afford.
