The British Lung Foundation is the only UK charity working for everyone affected by lung disease. The charity focuses its resources on providing support for people affected by lung disease today; and works in a variety of ways (including funding world-class research) to bring about positive change, to improve treatment, care and support for people affected by lung disease in the future.

My story

It is with huge regret that I have had to pull out of this year’s race and defer my place to 2010.

I damaged the Iliotibial band that runs from the thigh to the shin and weakened both my left hip and knee joints by overcompensating for this injury. I had physiotherapy twice a week for 4 weeks and whilst it has got a lot better, I had to stop training. With only a few weeks until the big day, I do not think I will be back to full fitness in time and my physiotherapist advised not to run this year to avoid further damage.

I was convinced it would get better and was determined to still do it but I have decided I would rather wait until next year so I can fully recover and then train harder to complete it in a time I can be proud of.

I have managed to exceed my fundraising target of £1600. With your consent only, the British Lung Foundation will keep this money and then give me a guaranteed place next year for which I will have to sign to agree to definitely complete it……..I promise that I am not just taking your money and then not going to do it!!! All money has already gone direct to the British Lung Foundation via Just Giving and I will not therefore have to raise anything next year.

If anyone would rather have a refund of your donation, please let me know and I will arrange this. Similarly if you still want to sponsor me to run it next year, you can still do so via this page.

I am so disappointed to have to pull out but it has made me even more determined to do it next year!
