Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am running the Brighton Marathon 2010 to raise money for the youth of Rwanda, through the charity rYico.

This is the year of my 50th birthday and I would like my effort in something I enjoy, running, to make a difference to the world that we only see through TV screens.

Not a week goes by without us hearing another story of the distress and tragedy of peoples lives in Rwanda. Since 1994, the country has continued it's downward spiral into widespread poverty and chaos. As a mother, I feel that the saddest aspect of the difficulties that this country is facing is the loss of a childhood and a future for the children of Rwanda.

In a small way this year, I hope to contribute towards providing a more stable life and education for children who have been living and working on the streets of Rwanda and to help them start building a new life and enjoy the things that we take for granted.

Please donate, however large or small, and help me contribute to those who, I feel, need it the most.

About the charity

rYico is a charity founded in response to the needs of vulnerable young people in Rwanda. rYico has set up Centre Marembo, a training and resource centre that supports the personal development, education and training of young people including those that have been orphaned, neglected or left vulnerable as a result of the 1994 genocide. rYico also aims to increase social and cultural understanding about Rwanda within and between the UK and Rwanda though cultural exchange and education.
