Story

My name is Callie Blackwell and I'm mum to two boys, Deryn 9 and Dylan 4. I am married to Simon and we live in Norfolk.

What I plan to do....

Everyday there are soldiers who go out on patrol knowing that it may be the last thing they do. They do this every day for up to 8 months!

There was only one thing that I could do that I thought would make me feel the anticipation and fear that those brave soldiers feel everyday.

There are hundreds if not thousands of soldiers who have been injured out in Afghanistan and Iraq that now have lives that are a challenge everyday....

So....

I have decided I want to do something that is going to be an extreme challenge for me so I've chosen to do a tandem freefall skydive!

Please help me help them....

Why did I choose H4H?

I have been born into and have grown up in a military family, my dad was a Para and a Fusilier for many many years and i remember as a child him coming home from exercise...I was always so proud of my dad and wanted to be just like him when I grew up.

When I was 18 I married a soldier and that's when I met the closest friend i have ever had, Lcpl Karl Shearer.

Unfortunately in April 2003 he was out serving in Iraq and was killed in an accident involving the Scimitar he was travelling in....

I was at the time an army cadet instructor and took great pleasure in teaching them all I could about the army although I never managed to make into the army myself. Many of the cadets I taught now serve in the armed forces.

In 2005 I joined the TA and was lucky enough to serve with the Army Air Corps, something I throughly enjoyed.

So why did I choose H4H?

In my dads day there was no charity out there to help those who were wounded in N Ireland, I want to help this generations soldiers because no one helped my dads.

I can't help my best friend Karl or others who are so tragically killed out in Iraq or Afghanistan but I can help those who are tragically wounded out there and have to try to live the rest of their lives the best they can.

I know of at least one of my old cadets who has lost his life and no doubt there will be more who are wounded in action, if I can continue to help them as i did back in 2003-2005 I'll be a happy person.

I also know that it's not just regular soldiers who get injured but the TA guys put themselves on the front line too and they need our help just as much as the full time forces.....

Thank you for taking the time to read about me and my reasons for wanting to raise money for H4H, I hope one day to have made a difference to the lives of the men and women serving in our armed forces who have been unfortunate enough to be wounded while fighting for ours and others freedom.
