Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm fighting back - Our Dad (Reg Pearse) contracted early onset Alzheimers at the age of forty six and eventually lost his life to this terrible disease, after nine traumatic years, at only fifty five years of age, unable to walk or talk or recognise his family or friends. Dementia is not a natural part of ageing - it is caused by diseases of the brain that rob people of their LIVES. I started running about six years ago (at the age of forty six) and having raised funds for the Alzheimers Society by running a number of half-marathons in the past, I'm now going for broke with the full distance (at the age of fifty two - about the same age as Dad when he took his last steps).
Over 700,000 people have dementia in the UK, this figure will rise to over 1 million by 2025. If I could raise £5,000 this could support a researcher with the chemicals and equipment they need to further understand the causes of dementia so that better treatments can be developed and a search for a cure can continue. Help me to raise money to make a dream come true - a world, ultimately, where dementia can be defeated.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now and from the deepest depths of my heart and from our Dad many, many thanks for your generosity. With absolutely all my love, Carol xx.
