My daughter Sinead was a warm hearted, funny girl .She brought joy with her laughter and scared me with her wild antics and crazy plans. But Sinead is no longer with us .

Sinead died from leukaemia on November 5 th 2003, she was 19 years old .Watching her struggle from diagnosis, through bone marrow transplant to coming to terms with her death was a living nightmare. The grief since losing her is inexplicable.

Before she died  Sinead was worried about how I'd cope following her death, I promised her I would try to live the rest of my life in her honour. Now I try to maintain a sense of her fun and enthusiasm in my life.

So to mark my fiftieth birthday I going to trek across the Great African Rift Valley in Tanzania .A daily programme of trekking in desertlike conditions with heat and dust ,approx 25 kms a day, sharing a two- man tent ,showers alternate days only, so for me a tough enough challenge! The highlight will be a visit to Ngorongoro Carter where the trek ends. To prepare I'm spending most weekends walking and make myself go to the gym regularly .

By self funding this trip all sponsorship money goes to the Teenage Cancer Trust .Please help .Cancer is foul at any age but the impact on a teenagers life is so cruel .The trust is doing fantastic work to help teenagers and young people in their twenties cope with the implications of cancer.

During Sinead's illness she was part of a pilot group discussing the needs of young people with cancer along the South Coast.TCT is in discussion with Southampton and Exeter regarding a teenage unit .Please help me contribute to their work .

Please pass this page on.Thank you.
