Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

WE DID IT!!!

As a relay of 6 we completed the swim in 14 hours and 7 minutes on 1st July .Well Done team.

Peter and Richard Davis, Steve Harris, Rob Parry, Catherine Ralph and Alison Russell (L to R in Photo)

Thanks to everyone who supported us and the excellent pilot and crew of the Sea Satin.

Starting at 2am Thursday 1st July (in the dark) in none too pleasant conditions, we finished at 16.07 in the sun and lovely conditions,  with Steve swimming the final 7 minutes onto French sand.

Rob started at 2am, on the beach in Dover , in high seas and extreme challenging conditions. I (Catherine) did the next hour and then when Steve was swimming the 3rd hour,  the sun rose. Initially hidden behind dense fog it did not  clear or warm up until we were half way across the Channel. Richard followed Steve and then Alison. Our final swimmer was Pete. 6 hours completed and we all knew we had to go in at least one more time. Jumping in for the second hour was hard, especially for the 3 of the 6 who had been pretty unwell and all of us who had  overcome the extreme cold.

Nevertheless we all did fantastic second swims and Rob and myself went on to do a 3rd hour each in the water. With only 750yds to complete to the French coast, Steve touched down. We all jumped in behind, swam the 750yds and ran on to the French beach for a team embrace. The Frenchman on the beach worked out we were British!

I would rate this as one of the most challenging things  I have ever done, yet the memories we will all take with us will be some of the best.

"Never again"............ until next time!
