We Raise funds for Rescue-Rehoming Spaniels to Help with their veterinary needs

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In March 2020 we were accepted as fosterers for the charity Spaniel Aid UK and at the start of Lockdown we were asked to pick up a six month old puppy with health issues. Louie had been diagnosed aged 4 months with a condition called Masticatory Muscle Myosits(MMM), an auto immune problem affecting the muscles in his jaw/ face. His owner said he was in a lot of pain and taking 6 steroids a day. No-one can tell us what the future will be for Louie. He has some restriction of jaw opening caused by scar tissue but this does not hold him back. As the vet said he is primarily Spaniel so wants to go go go, only when the condition flares does he realise he has a problem. He is now with us as a long term foster due to his medical needs with the cost of any vet fees/treatment for his MMM covered by Spaniel Aid. Louie has very poor facial muscles but that does not stop him picking up his ball again and again and again!  but we do get great value for money from a dog chew - labrador 30 seconds Louie 30 minutes!

In July 2021 Louie became so unwell the vet offered to put him to sleep on the spot. After some frantic phone calls to Spaniel Aid the trustees agreed to fund Louie's treatment. He was a very poorly dog with a temp of 42 degrees. we took him to Intensive Care where he was 1:1 barrier nursed, he had chest drains fitted to drain the pus from his pleural cavity, IV antibiotics, Oxygen therapy and most importantly given a chance. Louie is a fighter and pulled through, he is back to running round the garden and enjoying life to the full.

Spaniel Aid UK rely on our generosity to fund all their good works. You can follow them on YouTube and meet some of the other dogs in long term foster care - like the gorgeous Clementine who came into the care of SAUK underweight and blind as her owners had not taken her for treatment for her diabetes, she also had cystitis and matted fur. Under the care of her fosterer she has blossomed into a beautiful spaniel living a great life with her brothers from another mother!
