APRIL FOOLS DAY SKYDIVE

Event: 15,000 Feet Skydive

Date: April 1st 2012

Location: North Lincolnshire

The Charity that we will be raising funds is the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) MND is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks the upper and lower motor neurones.

Degeneration of the motor neurones leads to weakness and wasting of muscles, causing increasing loss of mobility in the limbs, and difficulties with speech, swallowing and breathing.

The muscles first affected tend to be those in the hands, feet and mouth, this is dependent on which type of the disease you are diagnosed with.

Motor Neurone Disease can be extremely difficult to diagnose for several reasons.

Ø  It is a comparatively ‘rare’ disease.

Ø  The early symptoms can be quite slight, such as clumsiness, mild weakness or slightly slurred speech, all of which can be attributed to other reasons. It can be some time before someone feels it necessary to see his or her GP.

Ø  The disease affects each individual in a different way; there is no definitive symptom, which would immediately indicate diagnosis.

There is no test available to diagnose MND; it is a case of eliminating other potential conditions. The effects of MND can vary enormously from person to person, from the presenting symptoms, the rate and pattern of the disease progression to the length of survival time after diagnosis.

Some of you may or may not know Tony Heywood but to many of us he was the most amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

Tony’s biggest dream was to see his beautiful daughter settle down with a wonderful man and get married and have kids.

When Tony got diagnosed with the illness MND it was a blow to all of us, how could such a wonderful man who we all love be taken from us.

Tony's next dream was to walk his beautiful daughter down the aisle at her wedding before his illness took over.... well that dream came true for him too and he saw his daughter Zoe get married to Brian Clink. Unfortunately Tony was taken from us in January 2011 and we feel we owe it to Tony and to the charity MND to raise as much money for this amazing charity by doing a skydive on April 1st 2012.

MND were so amazing looking after Tony's every need and a great help and support both to Zoe and her mum through all of it.

Lets all make another dream come true and raise as much money as I can for an amazing charity MND and create awareness of this wonderful charity so they can help others just like they helped Tony.
