Story

Four Chambers employees. Four friends.
That makes eight silly, chilly people all in the same boat.

Please sponsor our team to take part in the Chest, Heart & Stroke White Water Rafting Challenge 2009, set in sunny Perthshire in not-so-sunny March. We're looking to raise at least £950 for CHS Scotland so please give what you can - every little helps; or, as we say in Scotland (according to The Chambers Dictionary) 'many a mickle maks a muckle'!

The White Water Rafting Challenge combines a break-neck 3 mile flat water race followed by 3 miles of rapids: some of the fastest white water in Scotland. Our team will apparently be pushed to its limits by two hour
s of intense physical competition and heart-stopping action.

Please note the encouraging terminology that CHS Scotland are using here: break-neck, pushed to the limit, intense, heart-stopping.

Heart and stroke disease, along with cancer, form the 'big three' causes of death in Scotland; coronary heart disease and stroke alone kill more Scots than all forms of cancer combined. Chest, Heart & Stroke Scotland aim to improve the quality of life for people in Scotland affected by these diseases, through medical research, advice and information, and support in the community.

Meet the Team

Alex Hepworth - The Polyglot
Don't be fooled by her sunny exterior - anyone who can speak so many languages is obviously an international spy. Will her MI5 training stand hear in good stead, or is she in too deep?

David Wark - IT Guru
Our resident code monkey eats binary for breakfast, but how will he cope when faced with the prospect of fresh air and exercise? It's sink or swim and his mad haxx0r ski11z can't save him now...

Deborah Smith - Lexicographer Extraordinaire
Unlike David, she's not too sure about 1337, but she does know that 1664 was a good year for beer. Usually deep in her cups, now she's in deep water - she knows what the words mean but does she really understand what she's let herself in for?

Naomi Farmer - The Marketeer
The silver-tongued wordsmith who convinced four other hapless souls that white water rafting in Perthshire in March would be something they'd like to do, and they should bring along some friends. It's fun to use learning for evil, but has she sunk too low?

Plus very special guests:
They don't work for Chambers but we love them all the same.

Becky Salter - half woman, half ferret, and as much upper body strength as the Hulk.
Chris Bell - the king of rafts, we are not worthy. We are humbled by his presence and his ability to do pull-ups.
Joel Lumsden - so buoyant he doesn't even need a lifejacket. He'll still get one though. Deaths are embarrassing for all concerned
Justin Livingstone
- Enjoys sitting down with grad students and timing how long it takes them to figure out he's not an expert in their field. It all went swimmingly until he tried English Lit - eight papers and two books later, they still haven't cottoned on.
