Two Islington swimming teachers and a journalist swam the English Channel on August 2nd 2009 in 11hrs 28mins to raise money for the NSPCC. Wayne Lock (Head Coach at Islington's Anaconda Swimming Club), Ed Skrein (ASA Swimming Teacher at Caledonian Road Pool and former Swimmer and Coach for Camden Swiss Cottage Swimming Club) and James Edgar (journalist for The Press Association and also formerly of Camden Swiss Cottage Swimming Club) are hoping to raise £10,000 by swimming the 22 miles (35kms) from England to France. We completed the big swim with our support boat, the Louise Jane, our Pilot, Andy King and our amazing support crew of Ravi, Tessa, David and Hamish. To increase awareness of the challenge, and to raise additional money for the NSPCC, The swimmers coached by Ed and Wayne swam the same distance as the Channel (and some more!) at Caledonian Road Pool. It was called the Super Cally Channel Challenge and was well attended, widely reported and above all, great fun.
