I have always wanted to run the London Marathon and this year I feel privileged to be offered the opportunity to run for the Parachute Regiment Charity. As a former PARA I have always kept in close contact with ex-colleagues and over the last ten years paratroopers have been on operational duty in a multitude of theatres all over the world. Irrespective of your political views they have put themselves in harms way on an almost continual basis. Sadly some of them are no longer with us, in other instances others are having to adapt to a new life with severe disabilities, both from a mental and physical aspect.

The mental strength of these individuals and their families is quite remarkable for which no medal or award can be given. In my mind this is my chance to give something back and try and help them rebuild their lives and move on. Having completed numerous official and unofficial marathons over the years my training for this year is on track. Last year I ran the Edinburgh Marathon in 3hrs 6mins and I aiming for the same kind of time once again and through that raise as much money as possible to assist these people.
