WE DID IT!!!!
We can't believe it, but it's finally over & we have SURVIVED to tell the tale!
There was an amazing atmosphere at the start and finish to the race, with a real buzz around the centre of Coventry. We were a little nervous, but managed to eat our fruity muesli breakfast and get ourselves to the start line in time.
It was great fun doing the first lap of the ring road, especially when we saw a group outside the Boys Club (aka New Horizons church) waving and cheering. It was also great passing several friends in cars in the traffic queues on their way to New Horizons shouting & hooting their support!
The sun came out in force on the way up Radford Road, and the poor guy dressed as a gorilla (fundraising for endangered gorillas) really looked like he was in pain. There were plenty of drinks stops & sponges though to keep us all cool.
It was a fair old slog up Radford Road in the heat, so it came as a real relief to turn off under the trees on Waste Lane. At the turnaround (8 mile) point, we were greeted by BBC presenters calling 'give a big cheer for Rosie from the BBC Open Centre & her sister!' which was a great encouragement!
It was good to have the downhill stretch back down the Radford Road and make up some time. The final 1/2 lap of the ring road & 300 yards to the finish were really hard though - but this was all made worthwhile by those shouting & supporting us at the finish & being presented with a medal by none other than Lady Godiva herself!
Thanks to everyone who turned out to support us & to Jane & the Moffats for a great lunch afterwards.
Thanks aswell to everyone who sponsored us - we have been overwhelmed by your support! All the money will go to the Disasters Emergency Committee for their ongoing work following the famine in Niger.
