Story
Thank you for visiting Chris & Rachel's fundraising site for the British Heart Foundation. As you may be aware we are competing in the IronMan UK triathlon in Bolton on August 2nd, because every year needs a big project and last year we got married and moved house so it had to be pretty big to top that!
After half a year of training and despite a few hurdles along the way (alleged swine flu, multiple bike accidents, relocations to Switzerland) we are just a few days away from making it to the start line in one piece, albeit slightly battered, tired, and several pounds (weight and money) lighter pieces than we were in January.
For the uninitiated out there, an IronMan is a long distance triathlon consisting of a 2.4 mile swim in a reservoir, followed by a 112 mile bike ride with 6000 feet of climbing, topped off with a marathon (26.2 mile run). This our first attempt at an IronMan, and it's likely to take about 12 hours for Chris and 14 hours for Rachel - thats if we manage to finish at all!
To give us some incentive to keep going when it gets really tough, we are asking our friends and colleagues to sponsor our efforts. We are supporting heart charities in the UK and US as we all know someone who has been affected by the problems they address, and we know how lucky we are to be fit enough to tackle such an immense athletic challenge.
Thanks for your support,
Chris and Rachel
