We make lifesaving connections to help more patients survive and thrive

Story

Hopefully you have not escaped from the fact that I will be running the London Marathon on Sunday (I have banged on about it enough). You may not know, however, that I am stepping in the well worn running shoes of Chris Bulezuik, my work colleague and mate. He has unfortunately incurred a run halting injury but is in no way going to let that stop the money being raised for a very worthy charity.

It is with massive gratitude that I take his place and so we are both keen for your financial support for the Anthony Nolan Trust (chosen by Chris for the below reason)

Please spare a few quid or whatever you think this epic feat on the feet is worth.

"The Anthony Nolan Trust is a chairty that is incredibly close to my heart having lost Mum to Leukaemia some years ago.

They are, effectively, a charity that has a registrer of individuals willing to donate their bone marrow to others who are suffering from Leukaemia and are in desperate need of a transplant.  The result can, literally, be life saving.

If, at very least, after reading this have a look at their website to see how you can become a potential donor.

In one sense, all they do is connect people.

They connect one person, whose immune system needs a boost – with another person, who is prepared to share a little of theirs - Matching patients with donors.

Of course, the detail is more complicated.

In the case of leukaemia, intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy are used to eradicate the disease. The intensity of these treatments, known as conditioning, has the negative effect of severely weakening the patient’s immune system. The transplant provides the patient’s body with healthy cells capable of regenerating the immune system.

A critical factor in the success of a transplant is the accuracy of the match between the patient’s cell tissue and the donor’s. Timing is also critical: once a patient has chosen to proceed with a transplant, the donor’s tissue – in the form of bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cells – must be available as soon as the conditioning treatment has finished."

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit our page and we await any help that you can offer. Big love to one and all and let us know if you fancy popping down to have a gander and poke fun at the slightly overweight and untrained English answer to Haile Gebrselassie.

Cheers in advance,

George and Chris
