Special Project to South Africa 2010 (SPSA2010) is the debut Lionsraw Project.
In June 2010, Lionsraw is taking a 300 strong squad of football fans to South Africa for two weeks during the World Cup. The 'Lionsraw 300' team will operate in ‘The Valley of a Thousand Hills'. This area, just outside Durban is the epicentre of the World's HIV / AIDS crisis where hundreds of thousands of deprived and orphaned children live with the implications of this disease.
Alongside existing local charities the team will help in ‘construction projects' and ‘soccer academies' for deprived local children during the day.
This tremendous opportunity gives fans the chance to make a difference and experience first hand World Cup fever. Fans will impact the lives of thousands of underprivileged children. They will create a positive image of football supporters, voluntarily carrying out vital and compassionate work in one of the neediest areas of the World.
The Lionsraw 300 are each expected to raise a minimum of £1750 to cover costs including return flights, hotel accommodation and meals, plus transfers and transportation in South Africa.
Selection to the squad will require each Lionsraw 300 member to commit ten of the fourteen days working as part of a team on a football or building based project. This tour is definitely not for the faint hearted. It is a chance for team players with a winning attitude who want to make a difference. This is the chance to leave a lasting legacy and a really positive impact on this area.
