Story
Most people have a reason for choosing a charity; I have chosen the Bone Cancer Research Trust because last year my best friend lost his battle with Osteosarcoma (primary bone cancer). He fought it hard for 22 months and over that time found this organisation to be very supportive, allowing him “enjoy” his time. Like most people, all I could do was visit him as much as possible, make him laugh and watch him slowly deterioration.
As they helped him, I would like to help them by rising some money by doing a sponsored bike ride on Sunday 24th April 2011
I am going to ride my mountain bike from the north to south coast of Wales avoiding the road as much as possible. That will mean travelling off-road on various surfaces and up and down as many peaks as I can. The ride will take six days, cover 355km (220miles) and knock up 5770m (18,696 feet) of climbing. I reckon most of the route will be ok to ride however, I do suspect there will be some hiking on the bigge/steeper peaks.
To put this into perspective, this is like going up Snowdon and then cycling a further 40km when you get down once a day for 6 days.
I will be joined by a friend, we will be travelling light without a support vehicle, staying at youth hostels and carry all the provisions we need. All the costs of the trip are covered by us so all the money you donate go the Bone Cancer research Trust.
The route:
Day 1 - Sun 24th - Rhyl to Llangollen – 65km (1045m of climbing) - http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/27798948
Day 2 Mon 25th – Llangollen to Bala – 60km (1206m of climbing) - http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/27803660
Tue 26th – Bala to Corris 60km (1595m of climbing) - http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/27854916
Wed 27th – Corris to Dolgoch - 70km (930m of climbing) - http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/27856890
Thu 28th – Dolgoch to Llandeusant – 48km (460m of climbing) - http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/27871662
Fri 29th – Llandeusant to Swansea – 52km (534 m of climbing) - http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/27872492
It seems that everybody knows somebody who has been affected by Cancer and knows the pain it causes.
Please give what you can it all helps!
Thanks,
Christian
