Story
I am walking The Camino de Santiago which starts on the
French side of the Pyrenees in Saint Jean Pied de Port and ends 490 miles (34 days) later at the Camino de Santiago near the Spanish coast.
I am doing this in aid of ‘Moveit4Smiles’ on behalf of the British Dental Health Foundation.
Moveit4smiles is an oral health initiative with a simple aim, to get moving and raise money to help tackle mouth cancer.
Our main aims are:
• To increase awareness of mouth cancer.
• To educate people about the importance of good oral health and hygiene, and the links towards general health.
Every year more than 7,000 people in the United Kingdom are diagnosed with mouth cancer, yet public awareness remains dangerously low.
About the HPV Vaccine
All girls aged 12 to 13 are offered the HPV (human papilloma virus) vaccination as part of the NHS childhood vaccination programme to protect against cervical cancer.
• Boys are not currently offered the HPV vaccine routinely in the UK.
• The HPV vaccine helps to protect against mouth, penile and anal cancer as well as genital warts.
The longer the wait a for gender neutral vaccination goes on the more lives will be lost needlessly.
Without the HPV vaccine hundreds of thousands of boys are being put at an unnecessary risk of Mouth Cancer. The introduction of a gender neutral vaccine could save countless lives. Please support this cause.
