Story
Christmas is…
…when miracles happen. A special time of year when family and friends come together. When laughter fills the house and people’s hearts get warm and joyful. Christmas is hope.
But not everyone can make it home for Christmas. Many young people, going through what Holly went through, are spending their holiday in hospital scared and all by themselves.
Holly was diagnosed with cancer on the day she was supposed to move to London for university. “My closest friends all went off to university. It's hard to see them carrying on with their lives and not be in the same place yourself”, she shares. “Cancer is a massive thing to happen to you when you're so young. You're just starting your life and then something hits you and it just completely knocks you back. (…) It's so much harder to deal with cancer for a young person because you're not as equipped with life, you've only got a young person's perspective and you've hardly even seen the world.”
Teenage Cancer Trust make sure every young person with cancer gets the care they deserve and shares the journey with people at the same age in a home-like environment where their loved ones can visit and stay over all the time. The Trust gives them the chance to be teenagers first and cancer patients second.
Christmas is… a time for giving and remembering the less fortunate. It is a time for those small acts of kindness that will brighten up somebody’s day.
We from The Event Academy are helping Teenage Cancer Trust to pass on the kindness. Will you donate this Christmas and help more teenage cancer patients feel at home and be surrounded by their family and friends?
