Story

JUST ANOTHER 396m

Hello

I have just returned from the 2 week trek to Everest Base Camp and a trip of a lifetime. Nepal is a fantastic country with it's people even more so. I unfortunately did not make the final goal of getting to Base Camp. On the morning we set out (second last day) to go to Base Camp my symptoms of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) got more severe and I was airlifted off the mountain. I am bitterly dissapointed not to have made the extra 396m or about 3 hours walk but can take so many positives from the experience, not least of which is the total raised so far. To exceed the £5k target is absolutely fantastic. Having worked on the project for over 8 months it has been fantastic to learn more about the great work the PCA Benevolent Fund has and is doing.

You are still able to use this site to danote until the end of 2007. For more info on the trip please visit www.thepca.co.uk

Latest from the trek:

Made it this far following exhilarating flight into Lukla with a runway not much longer than the square at Lord's. The views and scenery are spectacular.

Walking can be tough up the steep ascents. We are easily breathless. We have had our first sight of Everest - yesterday - which was fantastic but it looks a long way still to go. The cold nights start now as we climb above the clouds.

Our fellow trekkers are a happy bunch and after today we lose contact with the outside world until next week when we get back to Kathmandu - probably in need of a shower.

The views from the campsites are worth waking up for and are really motivating.
The support we received before leaving has helped when the altitude has kicked in and will probably help in the days to come.

We hope to see you with all our digits come Monday 12 November.

Cheers

Cam

Thank you for taking the time to find out about the fundraising challenge I am about to undertake.

The opportunity to: trek in one of the most ruggedly beautiful places on earth;  test myself physically (blisters and thinning oxygen to boot); taking 12 days to get to the remote Everest Base Camp; and to help raise funds for a what I feel is a worthwhile cause, is an opportunity I did not want to miss.

It will give me great satisfaction to raise funds for this players charity as I have worked for MCC for seven years, mostly looking after the needs of players. Some of these players and their families need help or may need help in the future.

To read more about some of the people we are trying to help please see PCA website.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally SECURE.  It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me.  The PCA Benevolent Fund will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Please support me in this great opportunity to contribute to this worthy cause.
