I must be insane to be doing this.  I didn't even swim in the Solent in the summer and now I am planning to do it on New Year's day! 

I used to do a 2k swim,

In a heated pool at a private gym.

Now I'm going to brave the cold,

To help those that were so bold.

For they have risked life and limb,

I think I'll manage a little swim!

This is an annual event which is organised by the local Inland Rescue service to raise money for charities, not just their own, any charity is welcome to join in.  I decided to take part in the event to raise money for Help for Heroes as it is a charity that is close to my heart and one that I have never really contributed to except spectating at sports events and buying a rubber wristband.  To be able to raise such a fantastic amount of money whilst challenging myself is wonderful.
