We raise funds with minimal overheads to run our children's refuge in Peru

Story

Thank you for the tremendous support of those who have helped me reach my target! Please CONTINUE to donate generously. All of your contributions will make a difference to Project Peru.

I am a second-year medic from Malaysia at the University of Manchester . This summer, I plan to join a group of students from Leeds to volunteer in the outskirts of Lima to build a halfway house as a refuge.

This house will be a shelter to improve the education and nutrition of disadvantaged people in the community, especially women, children and the elderly. My reasons for doing this are to change the quality of life people living in such areas and to get to know a different culture.

Project Peru, my chosen organization, founded in 1992, is putting in tremendous effort to relief the distress of the people. Peru has a high poverty threshold level of 48% of the population and widespread unemployment. Please visit their website at: http://www.projectperu.org.uk/index.htm

During my stay in the refuge, I will have a chance to observe the medical care in as well as integrate with the community. Besides building the house, my days will be spent feeding and spending time with the families who will teach me more about a life I have yet to discover.

On the 20th May, I will run the Great Manchester 10K to fundraise towards the project. If I win this race, I will earn money to go towards the project. However folks, the possibility of this is close to nil so PLEASE DIG DEEPER AND SPONSOR ME GENEROUSLY!

After my 4 weeks of volunteering, I will trek the Inka Trail: 45km in 4 days over 4000m in altitude! It will be a painful but fruitful effort following the footsteps of H. Bingham only to reach the Machu Picchu on the last day of the hike.

This site ensures a simple, fast and secure donation. No worries! It is most convenient and efficient because all proceeds go straight to Project Peru. Please clearly state if you are a taxpayer because an extra 28% will be added to your donation at no cost to you!

My aim is to raise £1,000.00, so please donate as much as you can afford to as soon as you can!

Not only will this experience change a part of me but also open my eyes to the future of healthcare in a different country. I cannot wait to start the project! Thank you so much for your support!
