Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This will be the first time I've done a half marathon. I realise there are much more difficult tasks but even if you can just give a quid you can be sure it's going to a worthy cause.

The Sophie Lancaster Foundation, based in Haslingden, Lancashire, works to educate young people about the dangers of hate crime and intolerance.

Sophie was murdered in 2007 simply because she dressed differently. I wear my Sophie wristband eveywhere I go and people are always shocked when I tell them the story behind it. It was a barbaric, shameful and totally unnecessary crime.

Through my job, I often cover the admirable work done by Sylvia (Sophie's mum) and Kate at the charity. They depend solely on donations and the work they do teach young people about the evils of bullying and prejudice is absolutely crucial in preventing such a tragedy happening again.

About the charity

Following the horrific murder of Sophie Lancaster, her family wanted to ensure a lasting legacy to their beautiful, bright creative daughter and so The Sophie Lancaster Foundation was established and it became a registered charity in 2009. We do this through various means including education.
