Story
The CharityAdventure CoastandCastles10 raising money for Sustrans
24th to 26th July 2010. 170 Miles in 3 days cycling from Edinburgh to Newcastle along the beautiful coastline via Berwick-upon-Tweed.
We're
raising money for Sustrans. Sustrans work on practical projects to
encourage people to walk, cycle and use public transport, such as the
National Cycle Network.
"The National Cycle Network is a great success story. Nearly
half of you live within a mile of it. The Network carries over 230
million journeys each year, taking kids to school, workers to work dogs
on walks, shoppers to shops - it even helps the Royal Mail deliver your
post."
"Over 33% of kids would like to cycle to school, yet only 2% do. We're
working hard to change this. Sustrans is the charity behind Safe Routes
to Schools and Bike It - schemes working with young people and schools
to make cycling and walking to school both safe and fun. We're also
building hundreds of Links to Schools from the National Cycle Network,
giving kids traffic-free routes and parents peace of mind."
These are just some of the quotes from the sustrans website. Please visit them here to find out how much more they do!
The route is mainly traffic free - we trundle through countryside, amazing views and pass some fabulous castles along the route. It's a relatively flat ride but covers 170 miles. Novice riders will manage it and will feel exhilerated when they get to Newcastle!
Read about some of our previous rides and get further details about up and coming charity events on our website. You could even sign up for our next challenge to help raise money for a good cause!!
