Story

Set out below is the original Webpage description of the event, however since it has now been completed, it is worth including here a short summary of the day itself.  We all woke to a very foggy start, with thick cloud settled  low into the valley.  The bus ride to the bottom lift didnt lift our gloom.  However, as we all travelled up the first three lifts from Brides de les Bains into the heart of Meribel, the clouds lifted and a glorious day ensued.  Sunny and cold were exactly the conditions we needed to allow competitors a real chance of succeeding in this very challenging event.   85 skiers, with 17 ski guides, all completed the 53 lift challenge, using varying routes across the mountains.  A receiving party on the Yeti terrace welcomed each exhausted skier as he or she returned from what we will all remember as a truly remarkable day's skiing.  It is rare to be allowed to ski fast and hard all day, to have the pistes virtually empty, and to do so with pit stops only a distant memory.

"Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.  Robs Bartlett, Jonathan Boldero, Rory Tapner and Mike Harrison will be skiing in the Coeur Blanc challenge.  www.coeurblanc.eu provides some further details of the 56 ski lift challenge in the Meribel Valley.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me.

The Coeur Blanc Ski Challenge has be established to raise funds in 2008 for a research project aimed at helping develop improved treatments for those diagnosed with Leukaemia.

A joint research project between University College Hospital and the Royal Free Hospital has been established by Professor Tony Goldstone.  The project will be researching the benefits of using early Minimum Residual Disease testing to determine the best course of treatment for patients with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (“ALL”).  It is possible that with the right data base, better judgement calls can be made between treatment options.  Those options are either courses of Chemotherapy and Bone Marrow transplant.  The earlier the choice is made, particularly if that choice is for a Bone Marrow transplant, the better the likely outcome.  ALL today is a disease which is capable of being cured, and with better insights into the optimum course of treatment, more patients will have the benefit of a lasting solution to this dreadful disease. University College London Hospitals Charities will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Many thanks for your support and generosity."
